SAN LUIS OBISPO – Cuesta College is thrilled to announce the return of Book of the Year events with celebrated queer Latinx author, poet, and artist Myriam Gurba. A Santa Maria native, Gurba brings a unique perspective that challenges conventional narratives of history and society through a bi-cultural lens.

Gurba will appear in person for a lecture and book signing on Thursday, Apr. 18, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Harold J. Miossi Cultural and Performing Arts Center (CPAC) Mainstage Theater, located on the San Luis Obispo campus. 

During the lecture, Gurba will share insights into her works, including her recent essay collection, Creep: Accusations and Confessions. This provocative collection explores the creep of toxicity and negativity that permeates our lives.

“We are proud to mark our 15th year of bringing influential and dynamic writers to our campus,” said Carina Love, Division Chair of the Library and Learning Resource Centers. “Myriam Gurba’s bold and insightful voice promises to ignite dialogue and challenge perspectives – we look forward to her visit!”

Now in its 15th year, the Book of the Year program at Cuesta College continues its tradition of spotlighting renowned authors, offering enlightening lectures, and providing opportunities for book signings.
