The Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery is pleased to present Marie Schoeff's exhibition Between Ordinary. Schoeff's approach to art is gentle, precise, and almost effortless, differing from traditional scientific or economic observation. She sees herself as an integral part of her surroundings, reflecting a humble yet profound connection to the world. Over four decades, Schoeff has created drawings, prints, and oils on canvas that showcase her attentiveness to the world and invite viewers to share her discoveries. Her works reveal new details upon repeated viewings, offering fresh insights and inviting viewers to notice different aspects of each viewing. Inspired by her husband, artist Dane Goodman, Schoeff's technique simultaneously produces a drawing and a print, creating ghostly images with each repetition. Schoeff's art challenges the traditional notion of the "artist's touch," emphasizing the relationship of art to its surroundings. Each piece invites participatory and ambiguous experiences that satisfy the senses, engage the intellect, and excite the imagination, transforming uncertainty into wonder and amazement. Viewers are encouraged to explore their surroundings with a renewed sense of wonder and discovery through Schoeff's unique approach to art and the profound insights it offers.
The exhibition will be held at the Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery from July 17 to August 16, with an opening event on July 18 from 4-6 pm and a closing celebration on August 15 from 4:30-7:30, featuring an artist talk from 6-7 in Room 6304.
