Dear Colleagues,

The Cuesta College requirement for everyone to wear masks indoors will remain in place.

California and San Luis Obispo County mask regulations change on Wednesday, February 16, 2022 and we have been watching closely for updates to guidance for higher education. Unfortunately, there have not been any recent changes. CDC continues to recommend that colleges in areas of “substantial” or “high” transmission should continue masking. Current San Luis Obispo County positivity rate 11.4%, case rate 68.7 cases per 100,000. According to the CDC chart below, SLO County remains “high” transmission based on the positivity rate.

Determining Transmission Risk

If the values for each of these two metrics differ (for example, if one indicates moderate and the other low), then the higher of the two should be used to make decisions about mask use in a county.

Community Transmission Levels

We have confirmed that our colleagues at Cal Poly, Allan Hancock College, UCSB, and Santa Barbara City College are all maintaining their mask mandates for the foreseeable future. Thank you for your continued diligence in following COVID protocols and the great example you provide our students.
