Cuesta College is set to host Veterans Week, featuring a variety of events between November 3 and 10 intended for both Cuesta College student and staff veterans and members of the public. “Leading up to Veterans Day, we wanted to show our veterans how much we support and care about them in a fun and interactive way,” said Cuesta College Veterans Resource Center Coordinator Karen Andrews. The following events are planned:

 

Date: Thursday, November 3

Time: 8:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Location: North County Campus, building N3100 in front of the library

Event: Veterans Celebration – write a thank you card and shake hands with a Cuesta College veteran; free pizza for all veterans from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

 

Date: Monday, November 7

Time: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Location: San Luis Obispo Campus, outside near building 5400

Event: Games Day – Bocce ball and lawn bowling, a military vehicle on display, as well as a flag display.

 

Date: Tuesday, November 8

Time: 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Location: San Luis Obispo Campus, room 5401

Event: Movie Day – The Hurt Locker; popcorn and refreshments provided.

 

Date: Wednesday, November 9

Time: 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Location: San Luis Obispo Campus, room 5401 / live feed to North County Campus, room N5006

Event: Lecture on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and increasing awareness of veterans’ issues in the classroom. Lead by U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Clinical Psychologist David M. Joseph, Ph.D., the lecture is intended for Cuesta College administration, staff, faculty, and the community. Free to attend; refreshments provided.

 

Date: Thursday, November 10

Time: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Location: San Luis Obispo Campus, outside building 5400

Event: BBQ / Toys for Tots drop-off. Free for all veterans. $5 for non-veterans or free with Toys for Tots donation.

 

Events will include various local veteran support service representatives, including the Woods Humane Society Pets for Vets Program.
