Topping Out Ceremony Info
Construction is progressing on the new San Luis Obispo Campus Instructional Building, and to celebrate the placement of the final beam, Cuesta College is hosting a Topping Out Ceremony on October 3. In building construction, topping out is a builders' rite traditionally held when the last beam is placed atop a structure during its construction. The public and college campus community are invited to take part in the event, which involves a beam signing and update on Measure L projects.
“We are excited to have the public come out to sign the beam and become a part of Cuesta College history, hear from key bond construction personnel on the progress being made on bond projects, and then get to watch as the beam is lifted into place by a crane,” said Cuesta College Facilities Services Planning and Capitol Projects Director Terry Reece.

Projected to be completed in the fall of 2017, the San Luis Obispo Campus Instructional Building will be a 32,000 square foot, two-story structure, housing eight high-capacity, multi-discipline classrooms on the ground level, capable of serving up to 45 students each. It will also contain one forum sized classroom, capable of serving 90 students. The second floor will be comprised of more than 40 offices, staff lounges and meeting rooms. The new structure will sit in the southwest corner of the campus and house programs that previously operated in modular structures. Construction began in April 2016; the building is projected to be open for use in Spring of 2018.
Measure L is a $275 million bond that was passed by San Luis Obispo County voters in November 2014. For more information on all bond projects, please visit www.cuestacollegebond.info.
