Alternatives to taking the English Assessment

The Test
Cuesta College uses a computerized test called Accuplacer to administer the English assessment. The test consists of two sections: Reading Comprehension and Sentence Skills. The test is not timed, so you can take as long as you need. Most students will complete the test within one hour. If you are also taking the math assessment, allow for approximately two hours.

Appeal Process
Students wishing to appeal their English placement results may do so by completing an appeal form and writing sample. The appeal form is to be brought to an assessment testing time. A writing sample will be completed during regular testing hours. The appeal form and writing sample will be reviewed by the English Division Chair. Please be prepared to spend approximately one hour when completing the writing sample.
