Cuesta College Police Department provides services to the San Luis Obispo and North County/Paso Robles campuses. The department adheres to the standards for the selection and training of Peace Officers as established by the laws of the State of California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). 

Campus Police Officers are vested with full law enforcement powers and responsibilities throughout the State of California, identical to municipal police and sheriff departments.

Recognizing Retired Chief of Police Peter J. Sysak

Peter J. Sysak was appointed as Cuesta College's first director of Public Safety in March 1991 and the first Chief in November 1996. Chief Sysak established himself as a law enforcement leader in the San Luis Obispo County community and the State of California. The San Luis Obispo Community College District expressed its appreciation to, and commended Chief Sysak for his dedicated service to the district, and wished him a happy, healthy and fruitful retirement on December 18, 2013.

A plaque was designed in recognition to those Cuesta College Student Public Safety Officers who have gone on to serve California Communities in Law Enforcement and Fire Safety careers fulfilling the STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME.
