What is Zoom? 

The Zoom program is designed to help students who assess into pre-college Math and/or English complete these courses within a semester (instead of a year), while also taking college-level courses at the same time.

 

Who is eligible? 

Students who are planning on attending the North County Campus this Fall 2016. Students who assess into English 099 can sign up for the English track, and those who assess into Math 123/128 can sign up for the Math track.  Students can sign up for only one track (either English or Math).

 

What is the Zoom English Track? 

 

Core Courses (Must register for all 6 units below)

ENGL 156College Reading/Writing (4.0): Students who assess into English 99 will enroll in this class.

COUN 250 – Educational Planning (1.0): CSU transferable course that provides instruction in study skills, career, academic, and transfer planning

CSS 025 - College Success Studies Lab (1.0):         

                 

Structured Choice Courses (A): Must select one class from list below:  (3 units)

COMM 210 (3.0): Small Group Communication

HEED 208 (3.0) Multicultural Health

CSS 225 (3.0) College Success

 

Structured Choice Courses (B): Must select one class from list below: (3-5 units)

MATH 123 – Elementary Algebra (5.0), or Math 127 – Intermediate Algebra (5.0) – (If eligible)

A course needed for student’s educational goal – per counselor recommendation.

 

 

What is the Zoom Math Track? 

 

Core Courses (Must register in 8-12 units listed below)

Math 128 – Applied Algebra (6.0): Accelerated preparation for Introduction to Applied Statistics (Math 236), College Mathematics for the Humanities (Math 230), or College Algebra (Math 232)

COUN 250 – Educational Planning (1.0): CSU transferable course that provides instruction in study skills, career, academic, and transfer planning

CSS 025 - College Success Studies Lab (1.0)                            

* ENGL 201A – English Composition (4): (if eligible to take Engl 201A) – Students who register for this class will combine this with the Core Courses above (Structured choices or GE choices below will not be required)

How can Zoom help me? 

Fast track to reaching your goals: At the successful completion of the program, you will have reached college level English or math in one semester instead of two and could complete your transfer level English course and/or math course by the end of your first year in the program! You will also have completed a significant number of transferable units. And your Zoom counselor will help you create an educational plan laying out a clear pathway to success. You are guaranteed enrollment in your Zoom courses for your first and second semesters at Cuesta.

Help succeeding in your courses and in college: A committed team of instructors, tutors, and your Zoom counselor all work together to help you do well in your classes and complete your goals. You will learn and practice skills that will help you to succeed in all of your classes; a tutor will help during your English and Math class, and when you work on homework in the study lab, tutors are there to help. You will receive support from a community of fellow students who are completing the program with you.

How can I sign up for Zoom? 

Meet with an Academic Counselor at the North County Campus (NCC) for a walk-in appointment. State that the reason for your appointment is: Information about Zoom. The NCC Academic Counselor will assist you in registering for Zoom.

 

What do I need to do to participate in Zoom? 

Meet with an Academic Counselor at the North County Campus and choose one of the tracks: English Track or Math Track

Enroll in a minimum of 12 units and take courses during the day Monday through Thursday: Your Zoom counselor will help you to enroll in your courses. See the Zoom schedule.

Meet regularly with your Zoom counselor: Your counselor will help you with your academic goals, planning, and course selection.

Attend all of your courses consistently and complete your course work: you need to come to class regularly and complete all of your assignments in order to do well in your classes.

Attend orientations: Attend a one day summer orientation prior to the fall semester and a one day orientation in January prior to the spring semester.

 

How will tutors support me? 

Tutors are placed in your math and English classes to help you during instruction. The same tutors will be available in the Student Success Center, at no charge, to conduct small group study sessions and to assist you with your homework.

 

What is required in the study lab - CSS 025? 

The lab is a place for you to work on your class assignments while getting help from tutors, especially with English and math. You need to attend the lab two mornings a week for at least one hour and thirty minutes in order to earn one credit and meet the requirements of Zoom. You will log in at the computer station and document what you worked on by completing a brief session record form.
