The application deadline for the Cuesta College Promise Scholarship is fast approaching. Recently graduated students of San Luis Obispo County high schools have until August 1 to apply for the scholarship and receive their 2017-18 academic year at Cuesta College fee-free.

The Promise Scholarship saves students an average of $1,400 by providing a fee-free first year to recent San Luis Obispo County high school graduates. Since the scholarship launched in 2014, the number of local high school students enrolling at Cuesta College has doubled to more than 40 percent, allowing more first generation students to obtain a college education. Cuesta College’s 2017 commencement ceremony saw more than 100 Promise Scholarship recipients earn degrees and certificates, the largest group of graduating Promise Scholarship recipients yet.

“Each year we see more and more local high school students coming to Cuesta College on the Promise Scholarship, and we attribute much of that to the strong partnerships we have with the San Luis Obispo County high schools,” said Superintendent/President Dr. Gil Stork.

The Cuesta College Promise Scholarship is the result of an $8 million private donation from the Charles and Leeta Dovica Family Trust. More than 2,100 San Luis Obispo County high school students have received the Promise Scholarship, saving students an average of $700 per semester by paying for the per-unit cost of classes and various other fees.
